My insurance company says my roof is too old. Can they drop me just because of its age?
In Florida, not on age alone. Under Florida Statute 627.7011, an insurer can't refuse to issue or renew a homeowners policy solely because a roof is less than 15 years old. For roofs that are 15 years or older, the insurer must first let you get an inspection by an authorized inspector — and if that inspection shows the roof has at least 5 years of remaining useful life, the insurer can't refuse you solely because of the roof's age either.
